Lea-anne is a Funeral Director with close to 30 years experience in the local area, caring for families at a time when they need her most.  Lea-anne approaches her calling as a Funeral Director with endless compassion, care and huge amounts of love.  For her, caring for people is something that comes naturally and is a big part of who she is.  Before joining the funeral industry, Lea-anne worked in early education as Centre Director."Funerals are something we all experience at one time or another and my role is to make sure our families are treated like my own family members.  I believe that when we treat each other like family, we create the most beautiful celebrations of life that help us to begin the healing process and remind us that grief is a true expression of love."

Bryan McCartney

Managing Director

Bryan has been part of the Funeral Industry for the last 8 years initially as a Funeral Celebrant, then a Funeral Director, Mortician and now as the Managing Director of McCartney Family Funerals.  Bryan believes in creating an exceptional experience for all of our families and providing the highest levels of care to their Loved Ones.  Prior to joining the Funeral Industry, Bryan held senior executive roles in Education, Mining and Renewable Energy and has professional training in Psychology, Human Resources, Law and Celebrancy. "I believe that we are the guardians of our families Loved Ones and along with my Team, I take that responsibility seriously.  Each person that we assist has a different journey and a different expression of grief and loss, so for me, it is important that we connect on a deep level with our families and go above and beyond to support and care for them as best we can.  I'm a big believer in being Brave rather than being strong. We find strength in bravery when we permit ourselves to express our emotions without feeling the burden of "being strong".  So for this moment, just be Brave."

Imogen Bizilis

Funeral Director

Imogen has been a Funeral Director for close to 3 years.  Imogen played a significant role is assisting in the development of our Community Lifestyle Programs and continues to support this each day, as well as supporting our pre-need and at-need families.  Imogen is passionate, caring and loves to chat.  Prior to working in the funeral industry, Imogen worked for SA Health in the emergency department and other roles within the Royal Adelaide Hospital. "Funerals are important to me because they help people celebrate someone's life and begin the healing process following the death of someone we love.  I especially love to work with families to create a unique and out-of-the-ordinary funeral service that might be in a location different from the normal funeral setting, a celebration that really captures their loved one in a special way."

Sonya Wood

Funeral Director

Sonya has been in the funeral industry for over three and a half years. Sonya is highly skilled at assisting families in arranging services for their loved ones goes above and beyond to ensure our families are cared for in an empathic, compassionate and personalised way.  Prior to joining the funeral industry, Sonya spent 13 years working within the financial sector for the large banks and prior to that worked as a hairdresser.  Sonya's experience is largely focussed on exceptional customer service and this shines through with all of the families that she is able to support.  Sonya loves to chat but also loves to give you the utmost care through her compassionate customer service. Sonya is a family historian and has passion for all things related to genealogy. She also loves walking around historical cemeteries looking at the headstones and wondering what their story was and where did they come from.

Cally is a passionate advocate for our clients wishing to pre organise their funeral arrangements. “I feel a strong responsibility to my pre-need clients to make sure that their final wishes are carried out just as they wanted.”With a background in creative industries and customer service, Cally is perfectly suited to lead our Community Lifestyle Programs, constantly introducing new and exciting activities to get everyone involved; and relishes her role as a driving force behind our various charity endeavours.Cally is always happy to have a coffee and a chat with our families whenever they pop into our Wynnum office.

Jacob Currie

Funeral Operations Assistant

Jacob’s role as a funeral director’s assistant sees him participate in transfers from private homes, nursing homes and hospitals, create multimedia tributes and printed stationery, participate in community activities, and lend support to other team members daily. Jacob started with McCartney family funerals early in 2021, joining the funeral industry as a change from his former role and looking for a way to give back to the community and do something meaningful to help others. His ability to help families have the best experience possible is a real motivator for Jacob who approaches every new day with 100 per cent enthusiasm and a real willingness to make a difference wherever possible. In Jacob’s words: ‘I love the flexibility of this role as every day is different. The most important thing I can do for a family is take good care of their loved one.”

Chris McCann

Funeral Operations Assistant

Chris started with McCartney Family Funerals early in 2021 working as a funeral operation assistant, a role that encompasses everything from transfers and operating multimedia at services to processing paperwork and assisting the mortician as required. Chris’ caring and empathetic nature are among his greatest strengths, and he takes great comfort and satisfaction knowing he is helping families with the healing process after profound loss, either at the service, or behind the scenes. Having experienced loss in his own family, Chris saw joining the funeral industry as an opportunity to help others who are experiencing grief and he takes pride in reassuring families that their loved ones are being treated with and respect right from the initial transfer into care to the final burial or cremation. In Chris’ own words: “Care is at the heart of our role. Vandy Koker

Funeral Operations Assistant

Vandy joined the McCartney funerals family in September 2021 and is surprised every day by how much he enjoys working in the funeral industry in his role as funeral operation assistant, working both with the funeral directors and assisting in the mortuary. Learning new things on the job every day keeps Vandy excited about his role and he appreciates the variety every day brings, working with different families, in different situations. Vandy always strives to offer his very best in any situation, approaching each task in a cool and collected manner, and he loves that his work puts him in a position where he can show genuine love and care for others. In Vandy’s own words: “I can show care in my role by being as real and transparent as possible, for the benefit of the families we serve”.

Jess Paul

Multimedia Specialist

Jess is the Multimedia specialist at McCartney Family Funerals, bringing to the organization a wealth of experience in videography, photography, and design. She is also the resident Disney expert, having visited 5 of the 6 Disney Theme Park Resorts around the world, and marrying her husband at Disney World, Florida. Part of Jess’ role is to compile printed and multimedia presentations for use during funerals and Jess is honored that she has the opportunity to show care to the families by listening to their stories and reflecting their loved one’s personality in the keepsakes she designs. Jess’ greatest strengths are her loyalty, acceptance, honesty and humour and she is grateful to call on these attributed to help grieving families feel honoured and special. Providing an exceptionally personalized service for families is at the heart of everything Jess does and her most memorable experience in the role so far was having a lady cry with gratitude that her loved one had been remembered in such an authentic and caring way. In Jess’ words: “I want to show the families that their loved one mattered and that I care, through the work I produce.”

Concierge

Oliver is our cuddle expert.  His job is to make sure our families all feel loved throughout funeral planning and beyond. He is also pretty good at keeping us on our toes in the office throughout the day.
